My Top 5 Travelling Tips!

Home / News / My Top 5 Travelling Tips!

Airports, long flights and layovers have become a familiar part of my life over the last couple of years. People are often surprised when I tell them that I was 18 when I was on a plane for the first time. However, I’m not a big fan of airports or long flights. I often get lost (that might have something to do with the fact that I have no sense of direction at all though), I get tired of waiting for my next flight or stress out because I have to run to get my connection. Below are a few things that I’ve learned over the years and I hope that it will make your journey a bit more enjoyable!

1. Food

Bring your favourite little snacks with you or treat yourself to a nice breakfast and a good cup of coffee in the airport. If food is a comfort thing to you, as it is for me, this will definitely cheer you up. If you have a long flight, make sure to bring an (empty!) water bottle with you. Drinking lots of water will help you to feel better and stay hydrated, flight attendants are usually more than happy to fill them up for you on the plane.

2. Be on time!

Nothing worse (for me at least) than being late. Make it as easy as possible for yourself and check in online, keep your passport at hand and be at the airport 3 hours before a long international flight.

3. Keep yourself busy

It seems like an obvious one, but bring a book, music or anything that will keep you busy. Lots of big airports have things to do and see, so you could wander around and try as many perfumes as you like.

4. Comfortable clothes

To be honest, I could not care less about how I look during long flights. I make sure I wear comfortable pants, a jumper and a big scarf that can substitute for a blanket. Of course not to forget my fuzzy socks for the night. I’m sure it is possible to look a bit more fashionable than I do while traveling but don’t let it get in the way of your comfort!

5. Connect with old friends – or make new ones!

There is more than enough time to get in touch with friends and have some good phone conversations without getting distracted in the airport. If you’re brave enough, why not start a conversation with a fellow traveller? It might surprise you how fun it is to talk to strangers.

You might be excited to get to your destination, or sad because you left loved ones behind, but keep in mind that there are new adventures waiting when you take the first step outside the airport.
